Description

"He has on the contrary expressed his intention not to pay it until the last moment that the delay of legal compulsion will allow. I have therefore sued"

ALS signed “John Q. Adams,” one page, 6 x 7.75, December 5, 1792. Adams advises a legal client, in part: “I received two days ago your favour requesting to be informed whether the money has yet been paid by W. Barrell, and I am sorry to say that it has not, but that he has on the contrary expressed his intention not to pay it until the last moment that the delay of legal compulsion will allow. I have therefore sued…for the next Court of Common Pleas…which will be in January, and if he should not obtain a continuance nor appeal to the Supreme Court, your Execution will be returnable the third Tuesday in April.” Intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, a couple small separations along folds, and scattered light toning, otherwise fine condition. A very boldly penned letter with interesting legal content. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
