Description

Broke the American League color barrier

A center fielder, Doby (1923-2003) appeared in seven All-Star games and finished second in the 1954 American League MVP voting. Appointed manager of the Chicago White Sox in 1978, Doby was the second African-American to lead a Major League club. He was selected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998 by the Hall's Veterans Committee. Official Rawlings Major League baseball signed in blue ballpoint on the sweet spot. Accompanied by a full letter of grading and authenticity from PSA/DNA, grading the ball a “10,” the autograph a “10,” and an overall grade of “10.” In very fine condition. A spectacular item from an often overlooked, but very important, pioneer of Major League baseball. RRAuction COA.
