Description
Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “James Madison" as president and "Jas. Monroe" as secretary of state, one page, 15.5 x 9.25, October 7, 1811. President Madison confirms that Antoine Lasselle, junior, is to obtain "by virtue of an act of Congress, entitled 'An act regulating the grants of land in the territory of Michigan,' in his claim to a certain tract of land, containing six hundred and twenty six, 60/100 acres, situate on the border of the river a Delud." Signed at the conclusion by President Madison, and countersigned by Secretary of State Monroe. Lower left retains the original beige seal, which bears several cracks. In very good to fine condition, with light soiling, and a couple of extra vertical folds near the center. Madison-Monroe land grants are not commonly seen.
