Description

FDR withholds some galley proofs "which might be misconstrued by future generations!"

TLS as president, one page, 7 x 8.75, White House letterhead, January 7, 1938. Letter to Frederick Baldwin Adams, Jr., the director of the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York City, in full: "I have talked with Judge Rosenman and he thinks it is entirely all right for you to have a copy of the final page proof when it is ready but not any of the intermediate galleys because there will be changes on these which might be misconstrued by future generations! I know you will understand, so if you can get Random House to give you a set of the final page proofs, I shall be entirely satisfied. I hope to see you both soon. My best wishes to you for the New Year." In very fine condition. Accompanied by the original White House mailing envelope. Adams was the son of Ellen Walters (née Delano) Adams, who was a first cousin of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
