Includes sixteen TLSs, eight ALSs, seven signed birthday/greeting cards (two with lengthy handwritten notes inside). Recipients include Alice and Howard Snyder (physician to the president and his wife), Betsy Bell Van Voorhis, Edward D. Lane, and Mrs. Roy H. Coles. Mamie exchanges pleasantries, sends thanks for gifts, and expresses her support for Richard Nixon. A sampling of the content:
May 8, 1949, to Ed Lane: "The chocolate was wonderful and even tho 'Ike' couldn't eat it I enjoyed it tremendously—sorry you couldn't have stayed longer down here—Ike looks like a million dollars and now plays 18 holes of golf without exhaustion."
July 29, 1952, to Mrs. Roy H. Coles: "I suppose you know that John left for Korea last week…Ike has just returned from a ten-day fishing trip in the mountains, and I am trying to wade through the voluminous correspondence that has been pouring in. I understand that we have a tough time ahead before the elections in November."
July 5, 1962, to the Snyders: "Thank you for sending us the fine initialed paper dinner napkins for our 46th wedding anniversary.
February 6, 1969, to Betsy Bell: "I am so anxious that every one know that your Uncle Ike and I am behind President Nixon."
May 9, 1969, to Betsy Bell: "Your Uncle Ike truly was a great man and I will miss him more than words can tell. He was the 'light of my life.' I expect to stay at the farm, however I am unlike the General as I know nothing about hogs, horses, and anything dealing with agriculture! The Department of the Interior granted me 14 acres of land which includes the house, barn, lanes and guest house."
May 13, 1970, to Betsy Bell: "I spent last weekend in Washington and it really was horrible having all those students descend on the city with such rabble rousing. I had lunch at the White House with the Nixons, Julie, Davis and Tricia on Mother's Day and I must say I think the President is standing up well, although he was tired and disgusted with the goings on of these poor benighted students."
May 18, 1973, to Betsy Bell: "Like you, I am behind President Nixon all the way. It does get my blood pressure up when people criticize him for Watergate when he has already done so many other fine things for this country. I also believe that he was too smart a man to get involved in this silly cops and robbers game that was played at the Watergate. I am very interested in watching the hearings on TV, now." In overall fine condition. Accompanied by many of the original mailing envelopes, and a photograph bearing a pre-printed signature inherent to the image.
