Item 2287 - Russian ZSH-6 LP High Altitude Helmet Catalog 588 (Jul 2020)

Back To Previous Page
(we are no longer accepting bids on this item)
Minimum Bid: $200.00
Sold Price: $367.50 (includes buyer's premium)

Circa 1980s Soviet ZSH-6 LP high-altitude pilot and cosmonaut helmet, as worn by Mig-25/Mig-31 pilots at altitudes over 70,000 feet and by cosmonauts during training. Includes the padded green communications liner—the Soviet counterpart to America's 'Snoopy cap'—with built-in microphone and headset. The white outer helmet is electrically heated and has an airtight sealed faceplate and shell. The green tube provides oxygen to the pilot, and the electrical cable is used for communications and power. The helmet has a metal neck ring used to connect directly to the pressure suit, ensuring an airtight seal. If the helmet or suit were to become depressurized at high altitude, the pilot would rapidly lose consciousness. Includes its original 'Passport' documentation, which states that this helmet was made in 1985 and was designed to be used for up to eight years. In fine condition.

Provenance: The Spaceflight America Museum and Science Center in Prince Frederick, MD, and accompanied by their descriptive display placard.
