Description

American author (1915-2019) who is best known for historical fiction such as The Caine Mutiny, which won the Pulitzer Prize. Group lot of seven TLSs and one ALS from author Herman Wouk, one signed “Herman” and the balance signed with his full name, nine total pages, ranging in size from 6.5 x 9.25 to 7.25 x 10.75, dated between 1941 and 1947, each addressed to literary agent H. N. Swanson. Highlights are as follows: May 4, 1941: “We have just completed a synopsis for a musical comedy which seems to us to promise a fresh and solid show, and we have just begun to make inquiries to bring it to producers’ attention”; December 7, 1941: “I am sending you a copy of the New York Times Magazine of December 7th containing a reprint of my poem, ‘Rhyme of the BB-66.’ The piece has attracted wide attention and, among other mementos, I have a personal note from President Roosevelt congratulating me on it”; January 3, 1942: “Wars have a way of ending, and remote as it seems now I suppose there’s a good chance of my surviving as a comedy writer needing representation in Hollywood”; February 14, 1947: “My novel ‘Aurora Dawn,’ is a Book-of-the-Month selection for May.” In overall fine condition, with occasional creasing or corner staple holes.
