Description


New Hampshire’s second governor (1741-1819), signer of the Constitution, and president pro tempore of the US Senate under George Washington. ALS, one page, 7.75 x 10, January 25, 1806. Written from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, a letter to North Carolina Governor Nathaniel Alexander, in full: "Agreeably to the request of the Legislature of this State, I herewith transmit, your Excellency, a Resolve passed at their last session relative to the importation of Slaves into the United States."
