Description
American planter, soldier, and politician from Virginia (1768-1828) who married Thomas Jefferson's oldest daughter, Martha, and served as a member of both houses of the Virginia General Assembly, a representative in the US Congress, and as governor of Virginia. Partly-printed DS, signed “Tho. M. Randolph,” one page, 7.75 x 7.25, July 13, 1822. As governor of Virginia, Randolph commissions "David Parry to continue in the said office of Sheriff until the expiration of two years from the date of his first qualification." The white paper seal affixed to the lower left remains intact. In very good to fine condition, with splits to the ends of the folds, one of which touches the signature.
