Original notes from Dave Powers, 2 pages titled Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Friday Nov. 22—Monday, Nov. 25, 1963—unpublished—details of Mrs. Kennedy's decisions and planning for the funeral of President Kennedy.
Original notes from Dave Powers—Friday, November 22, 1963—unpublished—remembers the two conversations he had with Bobby Kennedy about whether President Kennedy should have an open or closed casket. Also notes that after leaving Bethesda Naval Hospital early Sat. morning, Dave Powers arrived back at the White House at 4:22 A.M. and after a quick shower was back at the White House for a private Mass in the East Room at 8 A.M. In part: "After the private Mass in the East Room Bobby walked over to me and said "Come on upstairs Dave, maybe you can help out with young John." We were alone on the elevator when Bobby said: "You and the President had some wonderful times together." I said "He was the greatest man I ever met." Bobby said: (with tears in his eyes) "He had a wonderful life—but what a way to end it." The elevator door opened we both dried our eyes—Bobby walked in to comfort Jackie and I went in search of John F., Jr."
Dave Powers reflections on Robert Kennedy - 2 Pages - "In the history of American politics no man ever made as many sacrifices to make his brother President of the United States as Robert F Kennedy. On the 1946 Congressional campaign- "One day we were riding over the bridge to Charlestown when Bobby saw a spot he thought would look better with a big Kennedy sign on it. We drove back to our headquarters, picked up a ladder and a sign, and headed back to Charlestown. I can still remember him standing on the top of the 40 foot ladder, risking his life, to nail up another banner for his brother."
