Description

Japanese theoretical physicist (1907-1981) who became the first Japanese Nobel laureate with the receipt of the 1949 Nobel Prize in Physics 'for his prediction of the existence of mesons on the basis of theoretical work on nuclear forces.' ALS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, February 16, 1950. Letter to Ken Browne, in part: "I am indeed very sorry that I could not answer promptly. I have been completely overwhelmed by a continuous flow of letters, particularly from Japan. I couldn't yet answer most of them, particularly because I have no secretary here, who can help me in English as well as in Japanese. I acknowledge that I had received your second letter. However, so far I cannot yet find your first letter, in which you must have enclosed your photograph. At any rate, both of us are very grateful to your warm greetings. We are enjoying our stay in New York City very much." In very good to fine condition, with staining to the presentation folder covers, and a light paperclip impression to the top edge of the photo's mat.
