Description

Pioneering British aviator (1879-1959) who was the first to make a night flight, and is remembered for his activities related to the commercialization of aviation, and the promotion of the military application of air power before the First World War with a campaign called 'Wake Up Britain.' ALS signed “C. Grahame-White,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 8, London Aerodrome letterhead, December 6, 1923. Letter concerning his 1912 work The Aeroplane in War, in full: "In reading this book I want to draw your attention to the fact that it was written some two years before the commencement of the Great War in 1914. When this book was first published my predictions and suggestions as to the use of Aircraft in Warfare of the future were universally ridiculed by the Press of practically the entire world. The accuracy however of my foresight in this direction will be obvious to anyone who reads the book & who has a knowledge of how valuable Aircraft actually were in the various directions as described herein."
