Attractive ceramic mug with gold-painted handle made to commemorate the 1963 western comedy McLintock!, given to Robert Shelton by movie legend John Wayne, who starred as the film’s title character, George Washington ‘G. W.’ McLintock. The front of the mug shows a green weather vane with golden bull and a cowboy hat above the film's title, and the reverse reads: “‘Ho, Macklin,’ Bob from Duke.” The bottom is marked “Wallace, China, California, U.S.A.” In fine condition. A wonderfully appealing ceremonial mug and present from John Wayne, whose appearance in McLintock!, which proved a surprise box office success, helped to assuage the losses Wayne incurred from his Oscar-winning and overly expensive war film The Alamo.
