The Sex Pistols embarked on a brief yet furious US tour in January 1978. Originally scheduled to start a few days before New Year’s, the band’s criminal records made American authorities reluctant to issue visas, resulting in the cancellation of the tour’s first four shows; the show at Taliesyn was their second successful stop of the tour. The stop was made all the more notorious for Sid Vicious’s repeated failed attempts to acquire heroin while in town. Intent on making his gnawing addiction known to the Taliesyn audience, a pallid Vicious scraped the words ‘I need a fix’ across his chest. The drug-addled and violent events of the band’s notorious US outing led to the disbanding of the Sex Pistols.
