Exceptional 4.25 x 6.5 cabinet portrait of James A. Garfield in a noble head-and-shoulders pose, signed in the lower border in black ink, "J. A. Garfield." Published by Harroun & Bierstadt of New York. In very good to fine condition, with creasing to the corners, and soiling and a small stain to the image. The image in this photograph is used in the Bureau of Engraving and Printing’s official presidential portrait of Garfield, the die for which was engraved by Lorenzo Hatch in 1881. It was also used on the 6-cent stamp issued in 1903.
