How The Live BidTracker Works

You must place an initial bid on an item before 10:00 PM Eastern Time on auction closing day to be eligible to bid on that item during the extended bidding period that starts at 10:00 PM. If you are the only bidder on a given item at 10:00 PM then that item is automatically closed out and you are declared the winner. At 10:00 PM Eastern Time, the 30 Minute Rule starts and EACH item will close individually after that item goes 30 minutes with no new bids. Whenever a new bid is placed, the 30 minute timer will be reset and the 30 minute countdown will restart. If you are the current high bidder on a item and you change your max/ceiling bid after 10:00 PM, this will not extend the bidding time, only a bid placed by another bidder or a higher "straight bid" placed by the current high bidder will reset the ending time on that item. This rule provides all bidders the opportunity to bid on the items they are eligible to bid on without getting "sniped" at the last moment.

The Live BidTracker is a new generation of Web Application which automatically updates itself with the latest information on a regular schedule. It is designed for easy of use and to allow bidders to follow their items in more or less real time during the last hours of the auction. On any of the individual screens you can sort the records displayed simply by clicking the column header names. For example, you can change the order on the All Bids List to show the items closing the soonest (once the 30 minute rule starts) by clicking on the "Item Status" column header. Click this again and it will re-sort so that items closing the latest will be displayed first. On this column, items that are closed will always appear at the bottom of the list if you change the sort order. The lists allow you to "page" through the items in your list without having to scroll by clicking the arrows at the bottom of the list. If you change the sort order and the values change for items on your list they will automatically resort themselves based upon your selection.

Prior to 9:30 PM Eastern Time on the last day of the auction the All Bids, Out Bids, High Bids, Watched Items and Unopened Items lists (Tabs) on the Live BidTracker page update their information automatically every 10 minutes, or whenever you move from one screen to another screen. The Remove List Items is currently set to update only when it is accessed (at all times).

At 9:30 PM Eastern Time on the last day of the auction, the All Bids screen Goes Live and displays the latest bid information and time left to bid in more less real time. If you have the Live BidTracker page open at this time, you will need to refresh the page to get the live version of the page. To get the most out of the real time features bidders will need to have a broadband connection. Bidders on slower connections may still get updates, but they may not be in real time depending on the speed of their connection and the number of items they have in their lists. At this time the Out Bids, High Bids, Watched Items and Unopened Items lists will also update themselves every 60 seconds. It may be necessary for bidders to refresh the page to see tabs that may be come available due to a change in an item's status.

On some older computers or systems or on slower connections (such as dial-up), running the Live Bidtracker may cause your computer's performance to slow. If you find that this is the case, we recommend that you use the ("Classic") Bidtracker which is still the same, full function system that bidders have been accustomed to using on the RR Auction site.

Also, starting at 9:30 PM Eastern Time on the last day of the auction, the individual bid pages will display a countdown Timer which will at first show a Live countdown of the time left until the 30 minute rule starts, and then will show the amount of time left to bid on an item once the 30 minute rule (clock) starts. If you are on an item page and someone bids on that item the Countdown Timer will automatically change to display the new amount of time left to bid on that item. Once the timer reaches 0 seconds it will close that item and display a "Bidding Closed" message. Again, some older systems or slower connections may not see the "Live" functionality of the Countdown Timer.

As all Live components rely on the Internet connection between RR Auction's servers and the Bidder's computer and these connections travel many diverse paths over which neither RR Auction or the bidder has control, we recommend that you do not try to time your bid the the last second (commonly known as sniping) as this may result in your being shut out from bidding if your Internet connection experiences an issue. As each item's bidding clock is reset to 30 minutes whenever it receives a bid, there is no advantage in waiting until the last few seconds to bid under the 30 Minute Rule.
