Limited edition set of 20 sterling silver medallions from The Franklin Mint entitled “Project Apollo: Man’s Greatest Adventure,” with each medallion containing silver from medals that were carried to the moon and back during the Apollo 13 mission. The front of each medallion, 1.25˝ in diameter, features designs of all of the events essential to a successful moon-landing mission, with the reverse of each medallion bearing an embossed lunar image with encircling text. The medallions are encapsulated in their original 9 x 12 plaquette. Includes the original Franklin Mint portfolio and 1972 certificate of authenticity. In mint condition, with toning to the rims of the medallions.
Accompanied by three letters from the Franklin Mint, the second of which, dated February 24, 1972, indicated that the 1970 minted set did not, in actuality, contain Apollo 13 flown silver. The letter requests the subscriber to return their original set so it can be replaced with a new set containing flown material. The third letter affirms the delivery of the new ‘Project Apollo’ set with incorporated Apollo 13 flown silver.
