Description

Al Worden's circular star chart used during training for Apollo 15, measuring 9.25˝ in diameter, featuring numerous stars and constellations printed in black on a translucent white chronopaque material. The legend below reads: "Prepared by the Aeronautical Chart and Information Center, United States Air Force, for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Feb. 1967." Marked on the reverse in black felt tip, "MSC 991-0001.46A." In very fine condition. Accompanied by a letter of provenance signed by Worden, in part: "I hereby certify that this Circular Star Chart was used by me during the training period for the flight of Apollo 15…Apollo 15 was the fourth manned lunar landing mission, carrying for the first time a lunar rover and a scientific Instrument Bay in the Service Module. The flight was launched on July 26 and splashed down in the Pacific Ocean on August 7, 1971, logging flight time of 295.2 hours and a distance of over 1.4 million miles. Dave Scott and Jim Irwin explored the region of Hadley Rille for three days while I conducted scientific experiments in orbit. On the return to Earth I performed a 38 minute Extra Vehicular Activity (Spacewalk) to recover film that had been exposed during the flight." Apollo 15 has been declared the most scientific flight in the Apollo series."
