Description

Unsigned handwritten note in pencil by President John F. Kennedy, one page, 5 x 8, White House letterhead, no date but circa July 1963. In full: "French reprisal on multi-lateral—give Germans assistance bilateral." In fine condition, with a faint paperclip impression to the top edge. Desirable diplomatic notes by President Kennedy concerning the situation in Europe, penned in the aftermath of the signing of the Élysée Treaty, a treaty of friendship between France and West Germany concluded by Charles de Gaulle and Konrad Adenauer; the treaty brought an end to centuries of French–German enmity, laying the foundation for close bilateral cooperation.
