TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, personal Headquarters, U.S. Forces, European Theater (Office of the Commanding General) letterhead, September 17, 1945, two weeks after the Surrender of Japan on September 2nd, which brought to a close all full-scale hostilities of World War II. Letter to Lt. Commander J. D. Armstrong of the Royal Naval Reserve, in full: “I deeply regret that I can not comply with your request contained in your letter of August 29th. A complete search of the files in this headquarters and the Mediterranean disclosed no trace of the letter to which you refer. As this was a Royal Navy matter, it is quite likely that copies of the commendation are on file in London. I suggest you communicate with Captain Tim Shaw, Secretary to the First Sea Lord.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
