Description

World War II-dated TLS in French, signed “bien sincèrement à vous, C. de Gaulle,” two pages, 8 x 10, personal Le General de Gaulle (Carlton Gardens) letterhead, January 8, 1942. Letter to renowned Scottish Aristotelian philosopher and translator W. D. Ross, in full (translated): "I received your letter of January 6. I deeply regret that previous commitments prevent me, once again, from accepting your kind invitation for January 20 at 6:45 a.m. However, I would like to take this opportunity to ask you to do me the pleasure of coming to lunch with me at the Connaught Hotel, Carlos Place, Mayfair, on Wednesday, January 28, at 1:30." De Gaulle adds the salutation in his own hand. In fine condition, with light diagonal creases in the left margin.
